Family members in the local newspapers

Since the inception of printed newspapers in the 18th century we have managed to get our names in print for a variety of reasons. Some of them have been good, others not so good and occasionally they have been absolutely fatal. The earliest family member to feature was Charles Plummer Creek, son of James and Mary, whose untimely death was reported on 17th August 1855 in the Newcastle Courant.
Charles was the first reported Creek to fall off a roof but 86 years later his great nephew, Jack Creek, fell through a roof in Hull whilst working on it. This was reported in the Hull Daily Mail in 1941.
A second Charles Creek, cousin of Charles Plummer Creek met his end in an industrial accident in Hull Docks as reported in the Hull Packet on 22nd July 1870.
Perhaps the saddest death of a family member was that of Stephen Creek of Boston, Lincs. who drowned, aged 17, whilst working in the merchant navy as reported in the Boston Herald in September 1847.
