First War campaign medals

By 1911 the Creeks had moved from Boston up tp Bradwell in Derbyshire. Polly has relatives in Sheffield which may have influenced the decision to leave Lincolnshire. Oliver and Charles were both born in Bradwell but shortly before the onset of WW1 the family moved again to Kingston upon Hull.

When war broke out Charles Plummer joined the Royal Engineers at the age of 34. Despite his lack of mining experience he was placed in a tunnelling corps. He was involved in tunnelling under the German positions during 1917 and was awarded the military medal of honour as well as the three campaign medals which the troops nicknamed Pip, Squeak and Wilfred.

When Charles Plummer died his eldest grandson, Jacky, inherited the four medals before he went off to Australia. In recent years and, before he died, Jacky passed them to a cousin in the East Riding. The medals are still in the family.
